“Homage to Medma”

Collection in homage to Medma, ancient polis in Calabria (Magna Grecia) that dates back to the 5th and 6th century B.C. For this scarf, I freely inspired myself to the votive terracotta, small statues, busts and heads used during religious rituals. These terracotta are particularly relevant since they have some unique features compared to the Greek tradition. The border of the scarf is composed of alternated male and female heads, while at the corners there is a female bust with a crown. All these elements are framed by small palms, typical decoration of that time. In the central part there are two female statues, maybe goddesses, sit on a throne: one has a rooster on its lap, the other one has a dove (probably a reference to Aphrodite, goddess of beauty). Among these statues there is a standing male figure and also all these precious artefacts are framed by decorations with vegetal patterns (small palms).
